I was thrilled tonight to read about a California Judge's decision which says that the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy is unconstitutional. Duh. The judge said that in addition to encroaching upon the 1st and 5th Amendment rights of gays and lesbians, that this policy has harmed military recruitment efforts, and thousands of specially-qualified military personnel have been fired during wartime, when we should be more concerned with having the best possible people using their skills to help us. Duh. I'm not sure how long this will last, or if it will be proved that this single judge lack the authority to make a nationwide ban. I hope this is the start of the end of this ill-conceived, horribly-executed program.
